Shipping and handling fees, costs, and buyer perception

Shipping and handling costs are constantly changing and they are usually only ratcheting ONE direction : UP. Buyers remorse can cost you money if your buyer has found the way PayPal provides refunds in the case of geplaints.Buyer perception of listed fixed shipping costs can range from no consideration relative to their auction bidding to an AFTER-SALE geplaint about the auction item via The PayPal Protection Policy, in order to rescind the sale. This type of "buyers remorse" is most troublesome to the seller especially in the usual case in which the shipping costs are clearly identified in the listing. In these cases of buyers remorse, the buyer will not make the shipping and handling cost the issue since this is not a sufficient or fair reason to rescind the sale. So instead these buyers will geplain about some feature of the item not being as presented in the listing. The real problem then falls most certainly back to the seller since PayPal will in ALMOST EVERY CASE refund the buyers purchase upon return of the item to the seller. AND THE SELLER HAS NO RECOURSE.This is because PayPal is essentially for the convenience of the buyers, although the service is paid for by the buyer, since if buyers begee disenchanted, PayPal loses as does their parent, okay. So, it is my perception that PayPal refunds on virtually all and any buyer geplaints and disregards the response and position of the seller. As a seller you are wasting your time to even respond to PayPal on a Buyer item dispute. So in the case of low priced items, or cases where the shipping and handling cost is greater than the item, this is an inherent risk that all sellers are exposed to. The only solution would be for a fair mediation of buyer geplaints, contrary to the way PayPal does business at present. In my specific case, I actually refunded more than the cost of an item in dispute directly to a buyer, and PayPal totally ignored my position in the dispute and refunded the total cost of the item INCLUDING shipping and handling to the buyer. In this way, this buyer actually found a way to MAKE MONEY using the PayPal Purchase Protection Plan. There really is no way around this other than to put an explanation in your listings about the weight, size, etc., packaging materials, and fuel surcharges, etc. in order to try to AVOID this type of BUYERS REMORSE. Additionally, avoid PayPal as a payment method whenever possible.
