Confirm as 60's (?), and help w/ fabric?

Hi all, I have a NOS vintage "plus size" dress (is that the correct term for a vintage, size 24 1/2), which I think dates from the 60's. Can anyone confirm that? What keywords would you use? And finally, I couldn't find anything about "Armtex" fabric (a current company makes fire retardant clothing, and is located in NC; these tags state New York NY). Does the wording on the fabric tag help date? Would that be more 70's, than 60's? Would this be considered a "scooter" (which I've seen as the shorter, knee-length "shirt dress"

Jr Comeco train case/box purse vintage or just older?

Hey there, I found this purse. I have my suspicions its just from say 80's maybe 90's if not this decade. Its by JR Comeco. I am confused because after researching Comeco website the purse is gone obviously discontinued. I have seen other versions on the internet selling anywhere form 14.99 up over 100.00...some are posted on the Bay here right now and all the postings say its vintage..or something. I am having a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea this is truly vintage because it for one has a made in China tag and two it has a nylon zipper. Am I way off or do you think I am correct in dating this to the last two decades? I just want to be sure I have my facts straight before listing...I don't want to give the wrong information ya know...thanks as always for the opinions The URL links are below if you want to take a gander at the purse... This is a glossy red-brown jacket. The fur is much softer than mink, but it isn't rabbit. It's definitely real (it's a vintage ski jacket, with a quilted blue inside and leather elbow patches and a hood). Any ideas? Should I post a close-up of the fur? Yummy leather trench; what are (were) the snaps for?

Hi all, I have a lovely, yummy maroon/burgundy colored leather trench, I'm guessing 1970's, and a great size 16! But my question is this - there are 3 snaps, one under the back of the collar and one on each side of the front, large fabric-covered "back" of the snaps - can you tell what they would have been for? Is "spygirl" a keyword you might use for this trench? Thanks again. Link Link Link Link

Please help in dating a vintage rhinestone hair comb?

This thing looks like a crown -- it is some type of soft plastic (by soft I mean it is slightly pliable and smooth - not rigid and hard) and there are no mold seams or flashing to indicate it was molded but there is no evidence of carving either -- it is fairly big, measuring approximately 4 1/2" at its tallest and 3 3/4" wide - Some of the little rhinestones have fallen out - any idea of an age or anything else you may know would be great - I found this today in the Salvation Army thrift - they are offering better items now that a new Goodwill moved in down the road and I was shocked to find this there. Thanks so much in advance --

Q. about calculated shipping and insurance. Thanks!

Hi there, thanks in advance for your input. I just noticed a change in calculated shipping with insurance. It seems I have to put the insurance in as a handling cost when I ship domestic Priority. The $1.75 I put in for insurance could, in theory, go up a few dollars if my item gets bid up from $25 to $125. Has anyone had this happen? Do you eat the cost of a couple of dollars? It's really an academic question, I doubt it will come up for me, but I'm curious. Thanks to anyone who answers. Hope you're having a great Sunday! Nancy

Help for the Fur Impaired Please!

Hi, I have a faux fur stole. I have looked on-line a few times and cannot determine what kind of fur it is. I know it is probably not as important to know as a real fur, but I am thinking that someone might search for a specific faux fur. So, I am asking for help. I hope that I have the right pictures so that you can view it. If anything further is needed, please let me know. Thanks too for any and all help. It is always appreciated! I will post the pics in the next post.Debbie

Any Vera/Echo scarf experts here?

The two Vera scarves have the ladybugs, but the ladybugs are different from one another--the striped scarf bug has just legs, no body! I am assuming they are 50's-60's? They are in perfect condition, appear never used, have rolled edges but no tags. My question is, do you think they would sell as a set/lot? They are the same size, 25" square. If I keep them, I think I will tie them together and have an amazing shawl/scarf! I noticed that some of the ladybug Vera's sell for 5-6 dollars, some sell for $50, some don't sell at all! Do you think these are desirable/worth listing? The other scarf is an Echo, rolled edges, feels like silk. What is the deal with that weird shape? the scarf is much longer than it appears in photo, it's about 50" long. I thought the shape might have something to do with making it tie or hang better, but it really does not. Any ideas about this? If I list the Veras as a lot, would it make it more attractive to throw in the Echo too, or are they too different to appeal to the same buyer? TIA

Cowichan Education Thread

Not every bulky knitted sweater is a Cowichan sweater. Mary Maxim kit sweaters are not Cowichan sweaters. Many, many listings call these Cowichan sweaters and it's incorrect. Authentic Cowichan sweaters are very special. They are handmade from wool that still has the lanolin in it so that they shed water. Some are 80 years old and have been passed down through the family because they are wonderful works of art. Here is an authentic Cowichan sweater. The fibers are not dyed. The select dark wool to use in the pattern. There are no sewn seams. It's knitted in the round. The more modern ones will have a heavy metal zipper up the front. You'll see machine stitches where the zipper is sewn in. The #1 way that you can tell you are holding a Cowichan sweater...weight. The sweater pictured weighs 5 pounds. I know mine is an authentic sweater because it has a label and a serial #. You can read some more information on Cowichan sweaters here: Link Ikwewe, I believe you had some more links but I bookmarked them on my desktop system which is without a monitor at the moment so I can't see them. OMG some people...

Okay so I am probably about to get my very first shiny Neg from a clearly delusional woman. Sold her am item. She got it today, says "it was a bit too small, your measurements were off, I don't like how it looks on me" Oh and "positive feedback upon my refund" which sounds like extortion, but not overly blatant. Alarm goes off in my head on that statement, and the fact that she did not got into detail as to HOW the item was too small? Bust?? Waist?? And HOW off? An inch? Two? I respond back asking her to clarify how was it too small, and was it just that it did not look right or what? Did she measure it with measuring tape (since we all know most females like to think we are one measurement, when we are really another..). Which measurement was it? And what? I did state my return policy to her to be sure she understood it (as I like to cover my bases in case of scammers, which has become MUCH more prevalent lately, but I do make returns/refunds, in fact just had one today, lady was really nice about the mistake I admitted to, she is shopping with me again). Well she writes back flying off the handle at me, going off about how she can PROVE I am wrong, she measured it with tape, and is gonna take a pic! She was VERY hostile in her remarks. She says I was extremely rude..um...how exactly? But before I can even respond to that, she sent another email, EVEN MORE rude, where she cut and pasted my return policy and went off on every part of it underneath each line! Um lady I know my return policy, I wrote it ya know? THEN,,,oh this is the good part! She says "You say in the auction that the hips were 42 inches. Well I measured the hips and they were 40 inches!!!!" OMG I about died, that is when I knew she was a loon....because...wait for it....the auction SAYS the hips are 40 inches!!!!!! OMG so clearly I did NOT make a mistake! But amused, I wrote her back calling her on this, and asking so how exactly was I wrong when we both had the same measurement. I told her she must have misread the auction and mistook 40 for 42 (since the waist measurement above it says 32 she might have read them mixed up). Well instead of her writing me back and saying "OOOPS, ok you were right, your stated measurements were correct I read them wrong, but it is still too small, can you please make exception?" ...she flies off the handle again. She COMPLETELY ignores the 42/40 issue, does not even address it, and goes off on me, about "I am not happy! I will never shop with you again! why do I throw return policy on her face? why don't I just admit I don't take returns??? I am leaving you negative feedback!" Completely skips over the whole measurement issue....sounds like a guilty conscience to me... So apparently she is leaving me Neg because she is not happy...ummm..not happy with WHAT exactly? You just proved to me that my measurement was correct! GAH! Well I wrote her back asking why she did not address and respond to the 40/42 issue. So why is she not happy? And that I DO do returns, quite happily, and just had one today, and had another one a few weeks ago, and have no problem with it at all.. All I asked was for her to tell me exactly how I made a mistake when we both had the same measurement! I told her to go back and re-read the measurements on the auction page! Well it's obvious she did, and realised "oh carp!" and instead of being a reasonable mature level headed human, she decides to go on the defensive with me and threaten me with a Neg. If she had just admitted that, I would have been nice and let her return it and offer it to the underbidder...but NOOOOO.... I did though inform her that feedback extortion for a refund was against eBay policy... Well once she leaves me a neg, you can all add her to your BBL! OMG like I am gonna cry myself to sleep if she leaves me a neg...PFFFFTT! I will wear it with pride! I will print it up and tack it to my wall! Anyhoo, sorry for the long rambling...thought you guys should know!

How's Everyone's Sales Going?

It's been a very discouraging summer. Sept. was okay with the third week of Sept. being the type of sales I used to make which was alot. I was lucky for the first few yrs. I did this. Of course...I came in on the tail end of the fun part of ebay. I seem to have one really good week per month. I know things are picking up.....I just hope it's enough to keep us all going. I know like me lots of you do this for either a living or a very needed supplement to either your day jobs or your husband's job. That's my case. My husband's paycheck can't take care of us alone. We've both been very thankful for this means of bringing in extra cash. I would just like to know what the story is with an obviously recurring pattern of selling. Three weeks suck....one week does'nt. I keep thinking...is it my merchandise? I try to find the best stuff I can. I've started doing what foggy does and I try to list something everyday so I have stuff ending everyday. I don't know....maybe it's just a glitch in time. LOL. I always love to hear all your comments......there's just so much to be learned and everytime I post I learn something new. Thanks everyone! I wish all of you the very best in sales.....and life. Keywords?

I was reading on ebay about maximizing your sales and found this Create Good Content: Describe your item the best you can and in as much detail as possible You should include approximately 200 words of visible text in your description, with the most important keyword phrases comprising 5 to 7% of the total. (In 200 words of text, you'll want to use your keywords 10 to 14 times.) Note that search engines only read a certain amount of information per page, so overdoing your description with non-relevant information isn't a good strategy. does anyone actually use the same keywords 10-14 times! Help with Vintage

I bought this today, and while I've seen/sold a lot of Lilly Pulitzer, both vintage and contemporary, I've never seen an item like this. First off, it's a mohair turtleneck in a beautiful orange juice shade, and secondly, it has a tag I've never seen. It says The Lilly...and I've seen that plenty of times before in vintage things.... But what I haven't seen, and what's not listed on the vintage label resource is that it says, The Lilly, Palm Beach, FL. I've never seen that tag....and have never seen a mohair sweater from Lilly Pulitzer either! Any thoughts on this? It's beautiful and soft and perfect. I suspect maybe it's from the 70's...it has that Mary Tyler Moore Show look I remember from then. Take a peep, I've got lots of good stuff!

Well..either Omniture is working again...

..or my store has finally gotten into the groove...economy...September rush...? I know the Omniture thing was discussed earlier, and here was the issue as far as I could tell. My Visit, Unique Visitor, and Views pages have been VERY low since June. Very very very low...even on the days I end on, which should be the highest, were still VERY bad related to the 4 Weeks, and the Year Ago count it compares it to. I remember at one point, before then, that on my last day I would have 1,200 views, some items would be viewed 300 times, etc. (Yeh I know some of you gals with big stores are snickering at that amount, but hey for me that was a lot.) They dropped to about 30 a day regular, and then barely 100 on last day. Item pages were at about 16 views. I was depressed, and of course sales were down, but still okay for me. But I noticed recently that the Most Popular Listing counts were WRONG! I just sold these boots and on the item page it said 223, but Omniture was saying 74! But, today I logged in, and my View, Visitor, and Unique was SKY HIGH, like it has not been in such a long time. It went through the roof, granted I did have a lot more item views looking at the auction pages of any item, AND my sales went up drastically (well for ME drastically)...but... Item listing counts on Omniture was still way off! So I just don't know what to trust really, and not sure what the point of this is, but how do I know what is working and what is not. Was my hit count higher than I thought all these months? Was I really getting 1,000 hits when it was saying 100? Now that I am getting 1,000 hits again, is it really 2,000? Why is it not counting the item view properly? Ugh...it's so confusing...

Could this Gunne dress be considered a black bride costume?

I know around Halloween, I've heard folks talk about taking older white wedding dresses and dying them black for Halloween. Could this Gunne Sax be considered that? Or is it more the CASS/SASS crowd dress? I couldn't get it zipped all the way up my manni and it's a size 5 (80s size 5 that is) so it must be running a modern size 3 or smaller. Its coloring is deceiving. In person, it looks all black but the majority has a deep, deep plum almost black coloring with the lace and bodice being more black which shows more with the flash. I think it would look cute with a pair of black stockings and granny boots.

Somewhere in my paperwork from back then I have her eBay name but totally lost track although I have the envelope and correspondence from her assistant. I read lately that she has 27 storage areas packed full of stuff. Cathy

Shipping and Insurance charge changes - OT

We've been out of the loop for a time and are not sure about the shipping and insurance charge changes that were supposed to go into effect soon. Aren't buyers going to balk at high shipping cost with insurance added? Can you share how you are handling it? If insurance is not included in the price of shipping how does one handle it when a buyer wants insurance after they've purchased an item? (Just raise the shipping amount?) Went to Seller Central to find help, but they only argue there. Grateful for any help. Thanks!

Opinions On Asking Questions

Curious to the overall opinions of boardies on questions posted. I've been lurking on a few threads where I've read comments that some boardies (both sellers or buyers) expressed annoyment at being asked to answer questions that could easily be answered with a bit of research. The overall feeling I had was that if one is going to sell whatever it is the responsibility of the lister to do their research and answer their own questions or at least give it an honest attempt. I may well have misunderstood but I was left with the feeling that the research is part of the responsiblity of selling and since many who sell vintage are so passionate about it the research is a pleasure to do and interesting as well. I don't see it that way and I wonder if I am wrong. I have no problem with those that just sell vintage strictly for income and are not particularly interested in it yet they frequently offer great items that they come upon and by doing so present a significant contribution to the community of vintage collectors. If they ask a question regarding dating etc. that I feel that I can contribute to I have no problem answering as I enjoy the time I volunteer on the boards. Even if the answer could have been found out 1-2-3, I know that they took time to post pictures and ask their question so I don't mind spending a bit of my time if I can help. What I won't answer are those threads that ask for specific brands and labels to look for etc without doing a bit of research. To me that's just being a leach and taking terrible advantage of others in a different way and I won't answer those questions but once an item is bought by someone I don't think it's so awful if they don't want to do extensive research and find that by asking a question or two here they can get their item correctly dated and listed. Is my attitude wrong on this?

Awesome vintage girdle foundation with odd cups. Can someone help me out?

I have two vintage girdle/foundations with tags that read Custom Made Edith Lances New York and then a Saks 5th Avenue tag. They are both satin panels with zippers up the back, "boning". They are wonderful but there is an odd part to the bust that I just can't figure out and I can't list them until I can describe it correctly or alter them. The right cup on both girdles is lace. The left cup is lace as well but then it is stitched below the cup and an inside panel was added that snaps at top. So essentially you can "stuff" the left side. I'm thinking this was custom made for a woman who had uneven cups sizes. Does that sound right to others? And if that is the case, what are your thoughts about selling them the way they are or should I try to remove the inside panel? It was stitched on by machine and very professionally, so I could end up damaging the satin in the process. I didn't notice this when I purchased them, and they were not inexpensive, so I need to list them one way or the other. I would SO greatly appreciate others thoughts on this. Thanks in advance p.s. I have a good photo but can't for the life of me figure out how to attach it here.

Do You Dry Clean EBay Items?

I'd like to sell a few vintage clothing items on ebay which have been acquired at auctions etc., but I'm not sure how to go about cleaning some of them up. I'd hesitate to wash most of these pieces as the water may ruin the material. They range from truly antique to just neat old pieces. Do sellers of antique/vintage clothing dry clean the pieces prior to listing? I'm very wary of doing that because of the expense. The last time I had a jacket cleaned the cost was well over $10 and I can't be sure the piece will sell. Also, some pieces just don't lend themselves to dry cleaning. I have some fabulous beaded pieces and I'd never leave them with a cleaner. How do other sellers deal with this issue?

Vintage Carlos Falchi--embossed or reptile?

I have this posted on the shoes and handbag board too, so I apologize if you see it twice. Because it is vintage, I thought I would ask here too. This bag clearly looks embossed to me--dots are perfect, no roughness when you rub it one way as opposed to the other. My question is, I have seen listings for many 70's Falchi bags, and they are virtually all advertised as python/lizard/snake, etc. I found one on a reputable vintage site--almost identical leather but much smaller and a clutch. They were asking over $250.00 for it! Does anyone know if Falchi did embossed bags in the 70's? Interior tag says 'made in U.S.A.'. I'm just afraid to list this as a reptile skin, it really does not seem to me to be--but on the other hand, I don't want to call it embossed if it's the real deal! TIA

Help with a Mod Colin Glascoe Mini Dress - Liberty Print?

I have been researching this Colin Glascoe of London silk dress, and came across some information on the VFG that Glascoe used Liberty silks and wools for his designs. I have been unable to find a label like the one on this dress to help me confirm a date on the dress, or help me figure out if this is a Liberty print. But I am thinking it is 60's. Does anyone know vintage Liberty silks? Also, the hem was taken out on the dress - it appears to have been about 4" shorter. As I would have to hire someone to fix the hem, should I simply list as-is so the new buyer can hem to their taste? Thank you!

A couple questions about this leather jacket...rockstar?

Hi to you all. Ok this jacket was custom made in Argentina, by an upscale bussiness that now has stores here in the US. This one is late 80s or so I believe. This store does customs orders and between their customers are the Rolling Stones and other performers. ANYWAY, the jacket is red, with some kind of texture on it? and the hem is all make like it was slashed and ripped and passed to a blender (is all I can think right now, sorry, I really could not come up with other description right now). The bottom...is made with these insert pieces? like little triangles...I always remember how that is called....gores I guess is that correct? do you think with a leather jacket....that would be a good term to describe? ANd finally...all I can think as a descriptor is rockstar jacket. I really don't know if that would be a good description though....how else to call a coat like this one? thanks. Here is one pic....I have to still fix my pix so this is all I have right now. The jacket is a bigger size..like 12 or 14. Thanks in advance for your help.

2 Vintage Charm Bracelets

I have these two bracelets, I heard a rumor that "chunky" charm bracelets were hot... but maybe that phase has passed... I was going to post on the jewelry board, but I'm kind of partial to you guys. So it will be several weeks before I can make it to the closet furrier for an id! But, the not knowing is killing me! I belive it was made in the 80's! I have wondered if it was a Lynx, if so, it would have to be a Russian White Lynx and it would have to be the 'belly' of the animal! But, those are very rare! I would be in shock! My next thought was possibly an artic fox that is Lynx dyed! I am sure there is another white animal with black spots..But I just can't think of it or have not read about it yet! Listing question - Inkfrog - it's gonna' drive me crazy...

Hi - I still have all my old listings up through Vendio but today I decided to investigate Inkfrog (cost factor) so I signed up for a free 14 day trial with Inkfrog. This afternoon I thought I listed a pair of 40s Peep Toes in my store through their site. The listing is showing up in Inkfrog, and it's showing up under the selling section of My Ebay Summary. Heck, ebay even let me revise the listing for a price error I'd made... but it's NOwhere else to be found - not in any search (store or otherwise) and not when I click on myself for "see seller's listings". Do I need to change something in my eBay preferences to allow this auction to be seen (since I used to use vendio all the time)? ...or does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm terribly frustrated - was looking into Inkfrog as a way to start in a new direction with a new and improved attitude; but sadly, "it ain't working, Gladys!" ...any ideas or help welcomed.KD - Remember, STORE searches = hidden treasure!

60s Sewing pattern mystery- who's Filarski

Hi, I hope someone recognizes this pattern and can tell me what it is, and something about it... especially what it''s supposed to look like. There's no picture or photo on or in the envelope, and no instructions either. Copyright date is 1964 by 'Variation Pattern Service of Costa Mesa, Cal." The front of the 8 1/2 X 11 inch envelope just says "Paris, No. 1, Filarski's variation... complete wardrobe in one pattern system." There's 8 sheets of pattern pieces. Includes a skirt, blouse, and a dress with the variations. But I don't know what it's supposed to look like. Reminds me of the Star Trek episode with Captain Pike... never mind. When I researched it, mostly I ran into some rather painful-looking porn, so I quit looking. Have any pattern sellers ever seen this or know who Filarski is? The pix won't load, gotta get on the other computer. I'll be back. Sandra

Anyone use Shipping Assistant for International?

Needed to do an International First Class label, so opened Shipping Assistant and filled in the info. When I click on "Print", I keep getting a warning saying that I need to "Review and Agree to Mailing Conditions and Customs Information". OK. So I go into the area at the very lower right and click on Mailing Conditions; can only print a copy or cancel. Go into the area that says Customs Information and the same thing. There is no box anywhere in that area to check that you agree to the above, so I can't print my label. Without agreeing, I can't even save the label to print later when I figure out what I need to do. I even went as far as to re-install Shipping Assistant thinking that something had corrupted. Still the same scenario. I know its got to be something easy, so what am I missing. btw - don't suggest using Paypal shipping as my printer refuses to cooperate on International labels thru that site also. Thanks for any help.

How about you all? Anyone wear it everyday?Carrie __________ "Come what come may time and the hour run through the roughest day" Macbeth Shakespeare

unusual striped croc? gator? 1950s purse - ? (Kelly bag?)

I'm pretty sure this is the real thing (see how the scales are lifting up in the handle?). There was a 1954 calendar inside. I guess they dyed the skin different colors for this effect? I kinda love it! Any guesses as to whether it's crocodile, alligator, lizard, or does it even makes a difference which reptile contributed to this? Is this a Kelly bag? There's that wear on the strap and some on the bottom, but overall I think it's not bad.... Is there a name for this

Is it my browser????

Recently, pages started displaying differently for me. I click into a dealer's offerings, and it looks like they aren't selling anything. The Ebay navigation bar is on the left side, and the rest of the page is blank...... unless I scroll scroll scroll down. Once I'm all the way UNDER the left bar, there it is! The dealer's stuff. I've widened my screen/window, but that doesn't make a difference. Any ideas?????

Alligator? Lacoste?

I thought I was pretty knowledgable about Lacoste in its various incarnations. So, I was able to get some older clothes from an estate this weekend. One thing I got was a green nylon (?) pouch-front jacket with the "lacoste" alligator on the upper chest. Brand name? Alligator. Was there ever a time when EXACT alligators would have been allowed on clothing? Lacoste has been around since the 1930s, and I'd guess this is no later than the late '60s (metal zippers, possibly nylon, the

Foggy, please read re: elephant hide

On my other thread about the elephant boots, someone suggested that it was not legal to sell, you responded that it can be sold. I got a message from an ebayer, he was polite, did not seem to want to cause problems, but said he had some elephant items pulled, and that elephant is not allowed according to ebay policy. He said he was not going to report it, but I might want to remove auction on my own. I am hesitant to even write this and call more attention to the issue, but I am wondering, should I just leave it as is? Should I replace 'elephant' with 'exotic' but leave the description the same? I did mention to him that there are many elephant boots listed, he said that it is sometimes hit-or-miss as to what gets reported. Auction has 4 more days to go. If ebay finds it or someone does report, will it affect my ability to list other (non-elephant) items? Ugh, I swear, these boots are cursed! Thanks for all past help. Debra

1945 Life Magazine Bathing Suit issue

My sister found old 40s Life magazines in her MIL's house and sent them on to me. I thought this was too cool. It has bathing suits yearly from 1917 to 1945. Some highlights:1924 stockings were discarded, and Janzen introduced the red diving girl insignia, 1926 fancy "dress maker" suits made of jersey and pure silk (!!), 1930 belted suit, 1933 maillot introduced-skintight and cut low in back, 1936 bare midriffs were widespread, 1938 first molded bra also era of all rubber suits (YECK!). The article says that: " in 1945 both maker and wearer are at the end of their rope: there is-or seems to be-nothing more to cut off." How wrong they were.

Help in answering a buyers question on embroidered blouse

The buyer who recently purchased my item # 140343024850 sent me the following question: Hi, I purchased this blouse and it's probably on it's way already, but I will need to make a skirt to go with it. I am hoping to use it in a charity fashion parade in October. Do you have an approximate year for this? It would help me get the skirt right. Thanks, I dated the blouse as Edwardian but that's as close as I could get. Does anyone have a better answer to her question?

Help for my dingy lingerie

I have spent the last few days sorting through all of the lingerie I have stored in my shed. I am thrilled with how much really nice older stuff I have - I shouldn't be surprised since I have personally picked all of it, but some of it I haven't seen for years. However, a lot of it just looks a bit dingy and tired. No real spots or stains. Is there anything short of dyeing that I can do to restore some life to it?

Etiquette question.... not sure what to do (tome)

I sold an item to someone in Europe last February, shipped to her PayPal address.... but it was incorrect. She'd moved and hadn't updated it. She filed a PP dispute for non-receipt without contacting me. After the dispute was filed we began to correspond - it was very friendly - I refunded her money and she expressed continued interest in repurchasing the item. The package came back to me more than a month later and I contacted her about about starting from scratch - and shipping at a lower cost to her (I offered to ship express or priority and eat the difference). She requested that we postpone the transaction until she returned from holiday in two months. Time passes.... I email to remind her that the item is still available and waiting for her. She asks that if I don't *have* to sell it immediately, she will be financially prepared to purchase it in October and adds "if you cannot wait for me to pay: please le me know- I will fully understand". This was in June. Well, I felt I really needed to list the item and did so the first week in September - I notified her within minutes of listing and said I would accept the same amount she paid last time. Four days later (yesterday) I emailed the same message to an alternate email that she has saying that I would really have to accept some kind of offer on the item if I received one and I have. I haven't heard back from her. Just today I messaged her through eBay... because I checked her activity and noticed she made very recent purchases. I don't know why I didn't think of eBay messaging earlier... Did I do enough? I'd like to accept the offer, but have sort of a not-so-good feeling about it.

Help! Looking for a consignor for ties, scarves

Last spring, I was able to clear out almost all of my vintage. I gave a lot away to some college girls who were thrilled and donated the rest. I've held on to a few treasured items and it's clear that they're not ever going to be listed. DH wants me to get them out of the house and I don't have the heart to donate them. There's lots of gorgeous hand painted and very vintage ties, fab vintage scarves, excellent vintage shoes, a few amazing hippie boho dresses and coats, and some knick knacks and first edition books worth listing. If anyone would handle them for me on consignment, please send me a note so we can set something up. Thankies, Rose

Would you soak a silk jersey Ceil?

I think it's silk jersey, anyway. The bodice is lined with silk crepe. It's an amazing dress, classic Ceil Chapman. I paid more than I wanted to for a stained dress, and I have had it dry cleaned by THREE different dry cleaners. The last one did the best job, but it still has stains. The bodice has spots (my DH says it looks like gravy), and the skirt folds show stains from years of gathering dust. The thing is, I have nothing to lose. I'm not going to recover what I have in this dress if I sell it as is. So, if you were going to tackle this, what would you use? I have Borax and blue Dawn, that combo has worked for me before. On the other hand, I don't want to completely ruin the dress! I mean, it could be used for study I guess. My preference would be to get the dress clean, and make some money on it. Diana

Is this dress from the 30s? If not then what era? Thanks!

Is this dress from the 30s? It appears much older than the dresses I am use to dealing with and I had a hard time determining which photos to include. I'll include a few in the next post but here's a link to my photobucket album which has a zillion photos of this dress and the construction. I had a hard time with the lighting and some are overexposed (?). It has a metal zipper that looks like it says "conmar". I think the fabric is a rayon and there are no tags in the dress. Fashion Week begins tomorrow!

Hi, everyone - I have been so crazed with everything (including doctor's visits) I have not had time to BREATHE. On my blog I've been writing lots of posts about Fall Fashion Week (technically, it's Spring Ready to Wear 2010). Not only did I get press credentials, I managed to convince the press office that since I'm disabled, I need an assistant, and they said yes! (They NEVER say yes, but the prospect of me falling over on people changed their minds!) My assistant is a fellow fashion blogger. Among the shows I'm going to are Christian Siriano, Gottex, and Norma Kamali! AND I'm going to be doing live video from under the tents. As soon as my Kodak camcorder arrives, that is. I've been spending day and night at the computer. Every day is pretty busy but I've been trying to make space for rest (there are two lounges set aside for bloggers. I may not do much blogging, more lounging.) On the doctor front, I saw my general practitioner, who is a jerk (polite word). I couldn't move my left leg almost at all, but he didn't care. However, I got a referral for a neurologist, and a referral for physical therapy, so in the larger sense I got what I wanted. I have been doing my own physical therapy for my left leg. It's still a little draggy but works, and I have my super-bitchin' cane to get me through. Now, here's where I need YOUR help! I made a photo of all of the different outfits (not quite all) and I want you to vote on what I should wear the first day! I'll also be wearing a hat and make-up. These were quick snaps...in one set I'm wearing control underwear, in another I'm not. The blue/black lace dress is for evening, as is the purple dress. (The blue La Traviata gown is just for laughs!) The flowered wiggle dress was altered to fit me like a GLOVE. I just got it back yesterday, so that's why it's on a hanger and not on me. You can go to: and enter the password "fashionweek". Looking forward to hearing your comments! All Opinions Expressed Here Are Solely Those of Bucky The WonderdogClearance Sale Going On Now!

When You Are Buying,Do you Tell People You Sell?

Just curious how everyone else handles this situation. Sometimes if I am buying, whether at estate sale, auction, antique store, I will be asked if I am buying to sell. I used to lie and say no, then I went through a time where I always told the truth (thinking, I would feel really stupid if people knew I was lying, and what's the big deal anyway if they know?). Now I don't want to tell people anymore, especially since someone I spoke to about it at an auction now always bids on the things I bid on! What do you think, and what do you say if you don't want people to know you sell, or where you sell? Thanks!

NEED HELP TO ID CHINESE SILK KIMONO ROBE JACKET

Greetings, I acquired a beautiful silk robe yesterday at a thrift shop. Does anybody know the age of it? I've found similar robes online that say 1940's. Is this that old? (I took a few pictures of the robe as well as the label too). Also, there is a single belt loop by the bosom area as well as regular belt loops around the waist. Does this mean that the robe is ONLY for women, or used as an option if a woman decides to wear it? I put it on to size it up. I am male, about 5'10. The cuff goes down to my mid hand, and when folded up, it hits about 4'' above my wrist. The length of the robe hits my mid-calf. Pictures below, thanks!!!

Pink chiffon 60s dress. Problem w horesehair!

Pretty pale pink vintage dress has issues. Pretty but probabbly remade and the horesehair holding the skirt out is not real horesehair but braided white nylon that either needs to be replaced or covered because it sticks you and would be unconfortable. Back seam is also not good. Probably altered from a long dress or a dress with a bigger/bubble skirt. and looks un-worn. 28" waist. Metal zipper and all blue AFL-CIO tag. No other tags. What would you do? Thinking of putting it in my store with a very clear no return policy and full disclosure but not quite sure. Has this worked for you? PurrfectVintage

OT A Dog Named Faith! Picture Heavy

My purpose is not to anger anyone, or make them cry. Only to remind one that with "Faith" (regardless of what type) all things are possible. In these hard economic times, I wish you all the very best regardless of how you personally feel about me. This is 'Faith' This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs - 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which need to be amputated. He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him. His first owner also did not think that he can survive. Therefore, he was thinking of 'putting him to sleep'. By this time, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him. She is determined to teach and train this dog to walk by himself. Therefore she named him 'Faith'. In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let him feel the movements. Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him to stand up and jump around. Even the other dog at home also helped to encourage him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jumped to move forward. After further training in the snow, he now can walk like a human being. Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he just attracts all the people around him. He is now becoming famous on the international scene. He has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows. There is even one book entitled 'With a little faith' being published about him. He was even considered to appear in one of Harry Potter movies. His present owner Jude Stringfellew has given up her teaching post and plans to take him around the world to preach that even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul'. In life there are always undesirable things. Perhaps one will feel better if one changes the point of view from another direction. I hope this message will bring fresh new ways of thinking to everyone and that everyone can appreciate and be thankful for each beautiful day that follows. Faith is the continual demonstration of the Strength of Life. Scorp

It's a Nolan Miller dress with really interesting fabric. Actually, it's the most intersitgin Nolan Miller dress I've seen lately. I love the material, but describing it is tough. The fringe is woven into the material. I did a burn test and it makes a hard stinky ash that crumbles when you touch it. Burns really fast too. So, yesterday I was cruising the 1960's dresses.....

I was checking out the 1960's dresses on Ebay yesterday and was very disheartened to see that the majority of sellers give no indication in the title of size. Aaargh. I am on dial-up and it is slow going to have to look into each listing just to have any idea if the dress would fit. Please indicate some kind of sizing... small, medium, large, extra large, or even, as some seller does, the actual measurements (e.g., 40-26-46). Thanks for listening. Er, uhm, reading.
